The regulatory radar — July 2026

A monthly briefing on what's moving in supervision, redress and remediation — hand-picked for the teams that carry regulatory programmes on the bank's side.

Skilled person reviews. The FCA commissioned 47 skilled person reviews in FY 2024/25 — and firms appointed the reviewer in 41 of them. The commissioning data is published quarterly through FOI releases, lot mix and volumes review by review, and remains the best forward indicator of where supervisory attention is landing.

Redress reform. CP26/9 — the joint FCA and FOS consultation on modernising the redress system — puts firm-side certainty on mass redress events on the table. For any firm holding a live remediation book, the direction of travel matters more than the final rules: evidence standards and closure-pack discipline are converging on what a Section 166 already demands.

AML reform. The 2026 AML statutory instrument lands this year, recalibrating due-diligence obligations across the sector under a more risk-led supervisory model. Firms carrying financial-crime findings from earlier reviews should expect verification of remediation to reference the new framework.
